It has come to our attention that several unauthorized APIs are accessing our back-end systems using leaked keys, redistributing our data without permission, and attempting to charge users for these “services”. In some cases, these APIs go as far as impersonating AeroDataBox by using identical or similar names.
While we appreciate the recognition, a scam is a scam, and we have already taken action against known violators. However, the unfortunate reality of this industry is such that there are likely more and will be more fake APIs like this.
With that in mind, we would like to provide a few useful reminders to our subscribers to help avoiding counterfeit services and keeping their data and wallet safe.
- Keep your API key safe and private. For example, never commit your API keys to public repositories such as GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket. Exposed keys can be discovered and misused by anyone for any purpose, including to power the very counterfeit APIs described above, which could make you liable for the resulting abuse!
- If it sounds too good to be true, it is. If someone is selling access to our data at rates lower than those listed on our Pricing page, it is scam. Using counterfeit APIs carries a lot of risk: access can be cut off at any moment, with little chance of a refund or any communication whatsoever.
- Redistributing our data without permission is strictly prohibited. Using our API to redistribute data, build competing products, or create services that function in substantially the same way as AeroDataBox is a violation of our Terms of Use, unless you hold written permission from us. Violations will result in immediate access termination, possible legal action and/or any other measures deemed appropriate to mitigate the violation up to the maximum extent permitted by the law.
- Only use our genuine access points. The only legitimate ways to access our API are always listed on our Pricing page.
At the time of writing, these are:- AeroDataBox @ RapidAPI — rapid.aerodatabox.com (currently redirects to rapidapi.com/aedbx-aedbx/api/aerodatabox)
- AeroDataBox @ API.Market — apimarket.aerodatabox.com (currently redirects to api.market/store/aedbx/aerodatabox)
Note: Even on RapidAPI and API.Market platforms there may be more listings that look similar to AeroDataBox or offer the same endpoints and data. If they are not listed on our Pricing page, treat them as potentially malicious or better avoid them completely. If in doubt, contact us for verification. - Report suspected imposters. If you come across any product or API that impersonates AeroDataBox, replicates our endpoints, serves our data (or data in the same or similar format), or otherwise resembles AeroDataBox, please report it to us, so we can investigate.
In short: always verify before you subscribe, keep your API key safe, and don’t hesitate to report anything suspicious. A little caution goes a long way.
